Abhijit Date, M.Pharm., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, University of Hawaii Hilo. His research work is focused on exploring applications of nanomedicine for the prevention and/or treatment of cancer, infectious diseases and inflammatory disorders. He received his M.Pharm., and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from Bombay College of Pharmacy, University of Mumbai, India. His doctoral work focused on development of novel self-assembled lipid nanocarriers for improved oral delivery of drugs and natural products. During Ph.D., he was also selected as a part of Institute of Chemical Technology team that represented India at the Indo‐UK Biotechnology YES (Young Entrepreneurship Scheme) at Oxford, United Kingdom. After graduation, he joined the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, Northwestern University as a post-doctoral fellow. He received an additional post-doctoral training at School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Creighton University and at The Center for Nanomedicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has 40 peer reviewed publications and three book chapters to his credit. His research work has resulted in filing of 3 US patents. He had been actively involved in the Indian Chapter of CRS from 2002-2009 and he attended first CRS Annual Meeting in 2005. Besides nanomedicine research and Pharmaceutics teaching, Abhijit enjoys reading, cooking and playing table tennis.
