About the CRS Foundation
In 2007, CRS established the CRS Foundation as an educational endowment to honor individuals who have made notable contributions to the Society and its technologies, and to support the scientific training of its future leadership.
Mission
The CRS Foundation’s mission is to provide a durable source of financial support for the advancement of educational and organizational activities that enrich and extend the research and development of controlled release (CR) technology platforms involved in the delivery of bioactive agents in pharmaceutical, and non-pharmaceutical active ingredients and in animal-health related fields.
Aspirational Vision, Realistic Goals
The CRS Foundation’s Board of Directors will establish and monitor educational programs designed to advance and support controlled release and delivery science. The Foundation’s early focus is to advance and support controlled release and delivery science. As funds are available, the vision is to establish:
- International postdoctoral programs
- Travel programs for scholarly study
- Visionary educational platforms
- Academic-industrial partnership programs

Jorge Heller Postdoctoral Fellowship 
The Jorge Heller Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2010 honors former CRS President Jorge Heller (1927-2009) whose career spanned industry and academia in the research and development of polymers. Jorge Heller also left a profound legacy to the science of delivering bioactives as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Controlled Release.
Designed to cultivate future leaders, the fellowship will be presented
at the 37th Annual Meeting and Exposition of CRS, July 10-14, 2010, in
Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.
Joseph R. Robinson Postdoctoral Fellowship
As a tribute to CRS past president Joe Robinson, the CRS Foundation launched the Joseph R. Robinson Postdoctoral Fellowship as the first prestigious scholarship offering. The fellowship is designed to cultivate future leaders through advanced study and travel. The $30,000 award was presented to David Nguyen at the 36th Annual Meeting & Exposition of CRS in Copenhagen, Denmark, in July 2009.
