2008 Educational Workshop Applications

35th Annual Meeting and Exposition Educational Workshop Application Process
Chair Responsibilities and Goals

July 11-16, 2008

Workshop applications will be reviewed by the CRS Scientific Secretary, Workshop Review Committee, and Board of Directors. Workshops must be of high educational value for attendees and financially sound for CRS. In order to be considered, completed applications must be received by August 13, 2007. Applicants will be notified of application status on or before September 28, 2007.

Responsibilities And Goals

  • Chairs must select topics relevant to the controlled release and delivery community to be presented by knowledgeable speakers
  • Chairs must inform speakers that the speakers will be required to submit a PowerPoint presentation approximately two months before the workshop is held
  • Chairs must inform speakers that CRS headquarters will produce a workshop CD-ROM, which includes all of the presentations, to be distributed to all workshop attendees
  • Chairs will support speakers in submitting required materials and by enforcing material submission deadlines
  • Chairs must be available to approve speaker presentations
  • Chairs must also be a workshop presenter
  • Workshops must attract a minimum of 50 paid attendees
  • Chairs must solicit industrial sponsorships of $1000 or more from each sponsoring company and include CRS headquarters in the process
  • Chairs must work with CRS headquarters in promoting the workshop on the website, in printed pieces and in email communications

Scheduling

  • Workshops are held one or two days prior to the Annual Meeting and Exposition
  • The maximum time allotted for a one-day workshop is eight hours
  • The maximum time allotted for a 2-day workshop is 12 hours
  • Chairs must secure speakers who are able to present more than once
  • Each presentation should be 45-60 minutes and include a 15 minute question and answer session

Financial Guidelines

  • A budget not to exceed $10000 is available for a 12-hour workshop, $6700 for an 8-hour workshop and $3500 for a 4-hour workshop
  • Speaker compensation may include complimentary registration to the workshop and honorarium
  • Chairs submit requested speaker compensation for approval to the CRS Scientific Secretary and Treasurer

Speakers risk not receiving their approved compensation if all of their required workshop materials are not submitted to CRS headquarters by the established deadlines.
