Efficacy testing of anticancer drug(s) loaded nanocarriers in tumor bearing animal model

An extensive investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of various nanoparticle based formulations viz. tamoxifen and doxorubicin PLGA nanoparticles (Tmx-NPs and Dox-NPs), gemcitabine and doxorubicin loaded functionalized carbon nanotubes (Gem-CNTs and Dox f-CNTs) in DMBA induced breast tumor model. Similarly, the effect of PEGylation and folic acid (FA) modification on the bio-distribution and antitumor efficacy of methotrexate (MTX) loaded human serum albumin (HSA) nanoparticles was assessed in Ehlrich Ascites Tumor- (EAT) bearing mice model. As compared to free drug, all nanoformulations, irrespective of their route of administration demonstrated enhanced antitumor activity, reduced toxicity and subsequently higher survival rate in tumor bearing animals.
