AFFINISOL™ Innovative Polymer Solutions for Solubility
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. – Room Beacon G
Presenter: Charles Vesey and William Porter III
Presentation Area: Formulation
An increasing number of active pharmaceutical ingredients suffer from low solubility. To address this issue, Dow developed AFFINISOL™ hypromellose and hypromellose acetate succinate to enable solubility enhancement via hot melt extrusion and spray drying applications. This presentation will highlight the utility of these excipients to form stable amorphous solid dispersions.

How to Better Control Pellet Production Processes Through Counting
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Room Beacon F
Presenter: Yosi Shiloni
Presentation Areas: Formulation, Quality & Analytical, Processing
Drug developers and capsule producers are facing a great challenge: how to better control the required active material that is used during the pellet coating process. For answering this challenge, DATA developed a unique solution (DATA Count PH-JR) that quickly and accurately counts pharmaceutical pellets and mini-tablets as small as 0.25 mm.

The Role Liposomes, Nanoparticles, and Microparticles Play in Parenteral Drug Delivery and Patient Care
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Room Beacon D
Presenters: Thomas Tice and Norbert Maurer
Presentation Area: Formulation
Complex parenteral formulations include liposomes, nanoparticles, and extended-release microparticles. Established formulation techniques will play key roles in the future delivery of drugs and vaccines based on peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids. They will facilitate newer therapeutic approaches including immunotherapies, gene silencing, and local and targeted delivery. This presentation reviews liposome, nanoparticle, and microparticle based drug delivery approaches and their future impact on patients and healthcare providers.

What You Should Know About Lipid-Based Formulations: Oral Delivery of Peptides
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. – Room Beacon E
Presenters: Vincent Jannin and Jasmine Musakhanian
Presentation Area: Formulation
In an interesting series of recently published works, model peptides leuprorelin, insulin, and desmopressin were formulated in SEDDS following hydrophobic ion-pairing of the peptides. The newly designed formulations facilitated payloads of >10%  for peptide drugs, provided 100% protection against proteases, reduced glutathione, and improved their intestinal permeability.
