A system made up of a set of microcapsules dispersed in a polymeric matrix with some capsules containing monomers and photoinitiators while others contain chemiluminescent reactants. The light generated by chemilumiscent means upon damage of the matrix is absorbed by the photonitiators leading to polymerization of the monomers and healing of the polymeric matrix.
