Summary

This work describes a novel ultrasound sensitive drug delivery system that utilizes perfluorocarbon emulsion droplets encapsulated inside of a lipid membrane. This structure has been named an eLiposome. Calcein was used as a model drug, and drug release upon sonication was determined by fluorescence techniques. Release increased with insonation time and intensity. eLiposomes have great potential for spatially controlled drug delivery.
