COMMITTEES
This committee is responsible for the overall programming and day-to-day programming elements of individual annual meetings.
The CRS Diversified Products: Delivery Beyond Pharma Division is a multi-disciplinary, international group of CRS members dedicated to advancing science, technology, and education in the field of controlled release or delivery of non-pharmaceutical active ingredients. The committee is specifically charged with reviewing and expanding the scope of the division, as well as promoting awareness and visibility of the C&DP track within CRS.
Drug Delivery and Translational Research is a journal that is exclusively focused on translational aspects of drug delivery and provides a unique forum for publication of high-quality research.
The overarching function of this standing committee is to provide advice to the Board on all financial matters so we have a strong financial organization so that the CRS will fulfill its Mission and move towards its aspirational Vision.
SMD provides a forum for discussion in the field of transdermal and mucosal delivery, the challenges/barriers encountered, and novel strategies to overcome these obstacles to develop a successful therapeutic.
Bioengineering for Cell and Immuno Delivery (BCID) focuses on engineering strategies for the targeted and controlled delivery of cells and immunotherapies. Cell delivery methods leverage bioengineered platforms and materials to transport, protect, and guide therapeutic cells within the body to improve cellular therapies. Immunological delivery systems focus on optimizing immune responses through the precise orchestration of vaccines, immunotherapies, and immune-modulating agents.
The Computation in Drug Delivery Focus Group focuses on advancing the application of computational science to the design, development, and optimization of drug delivery systems. Relevant topics and activities include computational modeling and simulation, machine learning and artificial intelligence, predictive formulation development, drug delivery system optimization, and data-driven approaches to understanding and improving the performance of drug delivery technologies.
NDGT focuses on structure-based design and translational development of nanoscale drug-delivery vehicles and genetic therapeutics to address socially determined diseases. Relevant topics and activities include lipid-based drug delivery systems, nucleic acid-based nanoscale drug delivery systems, translational nanomedicines, genetic therapeutics, and advanced characterization technologies like SPARTA, and nanofcm.
OcDD focuses on studies that highlight the challenges and opportunities unique to the treatment of vision-threatening diseases.
OrDD focuses on research for the formulation and manufacturing of small molecule and biologic drugs to maximize their oral bioavailability.
Smart & Functional Healthcare Materials Focus Group brings together researchers to explore innovative materials and technologies for healthcare and drug delivery. The group promotes scientific exchange and collaboration through webinars, CRS newsletter articles, digital content, and early-career initiatives.
Bringing together researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, and trainees, the Women’s Health and Sex-Specific Differences in Delivery Science Focus Group advances innovative drug delivery and translational technologies to address women’s health needs across the lifespan. The group fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerates the translation of new diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventive strategies into improved health outcomes.
The Controlled Release Society (CRS) is a global organization. Global Member Engagement is at the heart of CRS. The collective expertise, views, and experiences of the CRS community help drive scientific discovery and technical innovation for the betterment of all members and the society.
The CRS Industry Advisory Group works alongside the Industry Foresight Council and the Industry Relations Manager to better leverage the overall value that Industry can bring to the CRS community.

This committee is comprised of the editors of the CRS Newsletter and is responsible for ensuring that the policies and procedures of the Newsletter are aligned with the vision and mission of CRS.
The Nominating Committee is a standing committee of the CRS and is chaired by the Immediate Past President. This committee is responsible for developing a list of candidates for the Board of Directors and Board of Scientific Advisors based on committee nominations and membership nominations.
This committee is responsible for selecting a recipient who has exhibited outstanding doctoral research and scientific contributions to the multidisciplinary field of drug delivery.
The Women in Science Committee is a dynamic community dedicated to showcasing the achievements and fostering the career growth of women in Delivery Sciences and Technologies. Their mission is to create a supportive environment that nurtures professional development at every career stage.
The overarching function of this committee is to provide advice to the CRS (the Board and other committees) and develop workshops, events, and initiatives that are tailored to meet the needs of Young Scientists within the CRS. The three pillars of the YSC program are scientific education, career development training and initiatives, and networking opportunities.
AWARDS COMMITTEES
Elevation to the College of Fellows is recognition of an exceptional CRS member who has made outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of delivery science and technology. The selection committee is made of the entire College of Fellows.
The Community Impact Award committee (comprised of GMEC members) is responsible for selecting a CRS member who has made significant contributions to controlled release science and services to the CRS scientific community.
This committee is responsible for selecting a recipient who has made outstanding contributions to the Young Scientist Committee (YSC) and has shown dedication to the development and success of young scientists in the field, regardless of the career stage, ensuring that individuals at any point in their career journey, from early-career to senior leaders, are eligible for consideration.
This committee is responsible for selecting the most worthy recipient for the DDTR Outstanding Research Paper Award, and providing insight into future planning of the award selection process as needed.
This committee, comprised of the CRS Board of Directors, is responsible for selecting a receipt who has exhibited exceptional commitment and service to the Society.
This committee is responsible for selecting the most worthy recipient for the CRS Founders Award, and providing insight into future planning of the award selection process as needed.
This committee is responsible for selecting a recipient who is widely regarded for outstanding industrial and translational contributions to delivery science and technology.
This committee is responsible for selecting an outstanding original paper published in the Journal of Controlled Release related specifically to the field of delivery and bioactives (not an invited, a review, or from a special meeting).
This committee is responsible for selecting the most worthy recipient for the JCR Best Paper Award, and providing insight into future planning of the award selection process as needed.
This committee is responsible for selecting an Assistant or Associate Professor up to 15 years after PhD defense with excellent contributions to Biomaterials and Drug Delivery Systems, including advancements in Non-viral Gene Delivery with PNPs.
This committee is responsible for selecting a woman scientist with up to 15 years of post-PhD experience who is dedicated to excellence in science, leadership, and the promotion of women in their communities.
This committee is responsible for selecting two current CRS members who have been CRS members for at least the previous five consecutive years. The nominees must be between 41–55 years old as of December 31 in the year the award is presented, and must be present at the CRS Annual Meeting to receive the award.
