Andreia Almeida is a PhD student at I3S, Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Sáude, University of Porto and received her master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering from FEUP, Faculty of Engineering University of Porto in 2014. During PhD, Andreia is developing her work at I3S (Porto, Portugal), Technion (Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel), VHIR (Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca, Barcelona, Spain), University of Seville (Seville, Spain) and MyBiotech GmbH (Überherrn, Germany). In the past 4 years, she has authored of 18 scientific papers and 6 book chapters and received 5 scientific awards from different countries. Her research interests are related to the nanomedicine field, where she developed a new polymer based on chitosan to be able to encapsulate hydrophobic anticancer drugs, aiming to treat colorectal cancer. Andreia Almeida is a member of the Spanish Portuguese Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (SPLC-CRS) and, in addition to science, Andreia is passionate about nature and photography. Family is the most important thing to her.
