Rahaf Mihyar

PhD Student

RWTH Aachen University Hospital, Germany

Rahaf Mihyar obtained her BSc degree in Pharmacy from the University of Jordan (Jordan) in 2020. She was then awarded an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) scholarship to pursue a pan-European MSc in Nanomedicine for Drug Delivery (NANOMED), which runs at Université Paris Cité (France), University of Patras (Greece), Università di Pavia (Italy), and Université d’Angers (France). As part of her MSc program, , she did her thesis at the Institute for Experimental Molecular Imaging (ExMI) at RWTH Aachen University Hospital under the supervision of Prof. Twan Lammers, obtaining a Master’s degree in Nanomedicine in 2022. In the same year, she joined ExMI as a PhD student, as part of the Research Training Group (RTG 2375) “Tumor-Targeted Drug Delivery”. Her research is based on understanding drug delivery mechanisms of cancer nanomedicines and immunotherapy in dependence of the tumor microenvironment and their influence on therapy outcome, paving the way for patient stratification and clinical translation. Besides research, and as a pharmacist, Rahaf has always envisioned creating impact at personal, professional, and societal levels. During her studies at the school of pharmacy, she has always enjoyed engaging in volunteer work under the umbrella of the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF). Rahaf is currently a member of the European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI), World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS), and the Controlled Release Society, including the German-Swiss-Austrian Local Chapter (GerChAt Chapter) and the Young Scientists Committee (YSC). Being part of the YSC is a great opportunity for her to network and help in directing the potential of young researchers through the multidisciplinary scientific workshops and networking events that are organized by YSC all year long.
