Juan Aparicio-Blanco is an Associate Professor of Biopharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics, Medical Devices, and Pharmaceutical Technology at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). He holds an MSc in Pharmacy (2012, Valedictorian) and a PhD in Pharmacy (2018) from Complutense University of Madrid. His doctoral thesis received the Juan Abelló Pascual I Prize (2019, Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors). He has also been awarded the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Seal of Excellence for Individual Fellowships (2018, European Commission), as well as the Juan Abelló (2018), Alcalíber (2020) & Glaxo Smith Kline (2021) Prizes from the Spanish National Royal Academy of Pharmacy, and the XIII Mario Martín Velamazán Pharmacy Research Award (2024, CEU San Pablo University). In 2025, he was appointed European Expert by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
His research focuses on the controlled delivery of cannabinoids using lipid carriers for applications in brain disorders, cancer, and infections. He enjoys the opportunity to join multidisciplinary and international teams to share perspectives from diverse scientific backgrounds in a synergistic manner to identify new therapeutic opportunities.
He has been a visiting researcher at the Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia (2022), the Open University (2016-17), and the University of Angers (2015), and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Navarra (2019). He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Young Scientist Committee (YSC) of the Controlled Release Society, as Treasurer of the Spanish-Portuguese Local Chapter, and as Young Associate Editor of Drug Delivery and Translational Research.
Outside the lab, apart from an avid reader, he is always willing to meet new people who are keen on thinking outside the box.
