Stephanie Barrett, Ph.D.

sbStephanie Barrett, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Scientist at MSD.  She received her B.Sc. from McMaster University (Canada) and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from UNC-­Chapel Hill under the supervision of Dr. Joseph DeSimone.  Stephanie is one of Merck’s leading experts in polymer and bioconjugate chemistry for enabled delivery of small molecule and macromolecular drugs.  She leads the team responsible for the design of Merck’s next generation of long-acting implant and injectable products and is the Therapeutic Area Lead of Infectious Diseases and Vaccines. For her technical and leadership achievements, Stephanie was recognized by Business Insider as one of the top 30 under 40 biopharma leaders shaping the future of medicine. In addition, she has also demonstrated remarkable passion for the CRS community, which is exemplified by her numerous contributions to professional organizations.  She is currently the treasurer of CRS (has been a board member for 2 years), is a member of the CRS Industry Foresight Council, and is an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Controlled Release.  Enhancing the connection between Industry and Academia within CRS for mutual benefit is one of her top priorities.  Stephanie is an active leader in advocating professional development of women in science.
