Profile: Dr. Abraham M. Abraham

 

Dr Abraham M. Abraham is a pharmacist and research fellow in the Donnelly lab within the School of Pharmacy, Queen's University Belfast. Dr Abraham received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics from Philipps-Universität Marburg in Germany in 2022 working on PlantCrystals and plant extracellular vesicles for transdermal drug delivery. Dr Abraham has embraced various transitions throughout his academic journey, gaining valuable knowledge and experience, to advance pharmaceutical sciences and build a multidisciplinary research profile, working in different research labs (e.g., at the National Research Council of Italy (2019-2020) in Italy, Universidad de Antioquia (2019) in Colombia, and Queen's University Belfast (2022) in the UK). He has also held several leading positions in different pharmaceutical companies.   

Dr Abraham is currently working on bioinspired smart transdermal nano-therapeutics and microneedles both for transdermal drug delivery and biosensing. Dr Abraham also focuses on advanced therapies and the translational aspects of transdermal drug delivery systems and green cosmetics by working on different safe and sustainable formulation principles (based on plants and natural products) as well as targeting the skin microbiome.

The scientific journey of Dr Abraham has involved his participation in different societies (e.g., Controlled Release Society (CRS), Postdoc Society at Queen's University Belfast and different public engagement and outreach activities). Furthermore, Dr Abraham believes in equal opportunity for all scientists and to advocate for diversity and inclusion in science by making opportunities for less represented countries/communities in CRS, determined to inspire and empower the next generations of drug delivery scientists.

Dr Abraham has also established different social initiatives like the “Wee Pharmacists: Again after 10 years in Marburg” ‘whereby he aims to reconnect with pharmacy students he taught between 2017 and 2022 in Marburg (the city where their pharmacy journey began) on the 25th of April 2032.
